This text book was commissioned by the Institute of Bankers in 1984 to introduce the International Banking Diploma. It is designed expressly to meet the needs of students studying the International Banking Operations Syllabus.

The Words Treasury Management in the title are designed to emphasise the Treasury and Treasury related functions described in the book. Both authors have many years practical management experience in the Treasury of major international banking groups, and it is their opinion that the book, whilst being written primarily for the international banker, will also be of considerable value to those engaged in the Treasury function of and multi-national enterprise.

For bankers and tresurers alike there is a clearly identified need to be able to understand the various financial instruments and markets, to know how they are handled and how they operate, to recognise and assess exposures and risk, and to control the related dealing and operating procedures concerned. This is of particular importance today with the many developments that are taking place bringing new instruments and techniques into play in the world's international and national markets. This book sets out to meet the needs of students and Treasury staff in this context from a practical rather that a theoretical standpoint.
