Voices From The Heart is the first volume of poetry published by IAD Press, the publishing arm of the Institute For Aboriginal Development in Alice Springs. Better known for its offerings in more academic areas of Aboriginal studies this volume gives a direct and emotional voice to the Aboriginal people of Central Australia.
Actually, it gives many voices, because the book is a collection of works by twenty poets from around Alice Springs and Tennant Creek. Some of them are previously published writers, some not, but the binding theme of the collection is their human concern for issues of land, family, history and identity.
The realities of recent history and the present are reflected in these poems. Many of the subjects are familiar ? stolen children, stolen land, the struggle for acceptance and the affirmation of identity.
