Increasing evidence supports a clear role for high alcohol intake in the cause of major heart disease. However, it has been discovered that specific constituents of some alcoholic beverages, which are also present in fruit and vegetables, may reduce the risk of certain types of heart pathology in humans when these beverages are consumed in moderate amounts.
