Primitive Capital Accumulation in the Sudan
Primitive capital accumulation is understood in this work as the historical stage in which the capitalist and non-capitalist modes of production articulate and wherein capital has not yet established its domination. I say ‘yet’, as this implies that the capitalist mode of production has the capacity to transform the specified socio-economic formation towards the establishment of its domination. The book attempts to analyse the main tendencies and forces in the development of the Sudanese socio-economic formation after the systematic penetration of the capitalist mode of production. Its primary aim is to provide a class analysis and thus expose the main tensions encountered by the present stage of development—an analysis that may be useful for the development of a progressive political strategy in Sudan. The book also endeavours to contribute to a methodological approach that could be of wider relevance to studies of the political economy of transition to capitalism.
