The purpose of "Fundamentals of Electrical Drives" is to familiarize the reader with all aspects of electrical drives. Basic understanding of electrical circuit principals and magnetics is assumed which should allow the motivated reader to readily follow the theory presented in this book. The CD which comes with this book has a set of 'build and play' tutorials which are in the form of simulations that can be used by the reader to enhance his or her understanding of the theory. These simulation exercises are based on a set of generic models which help visualize the physical processes that take place in a drive. The mathematics as developed in a step by step basis in this text, are the foundation of these generic models. Among those introduced models is an 'ideal rotating transformer' (IRTF) which forms the basis for dynamic electrical machine models which are the centre of all drive system. The IRTF concept allows a delightfully simple representation of electrical machines well beyond those given in this text. In the latter part of the book attention is given to the modulation and control aspects of an electrical drive.
