The Romance of the Forest (1791) is one of the principal models of historical Gothic romance written by Ann Radcliffe. It is the merger of mystery and suspense based on the assessment of conflict between self-indulgence and ethics. It portrays the story of a girl who is escaping the wrath of her father after declining to commit herself to a nunnery. Living in a desolated home, she has yet to face many evils.
