"Rewriting Roman History in the Middle Ages" is a study of the history of transmission and reception of the so-called Historia Romana (Eutropius, Paul the Deacon and Landolfus Sagax). After an introductory chapter on previous research, chapter 2 offers the first classification of extant manuscripts containing rewritings of the Historia Romana. Chapter 4 presents the first integral edition of the paraphrased version contained in the manuscript Bamberg, Staatsbibliothek. Hist. 3, the historical context of which is discussed in chapter 3. The Bamberg version of the Historia Romana is analysed in the two final chapters: Chapter 5 analyses its syntax and vocabulary, and chapter 6 defines its guiding ideological and literary principles.
