The 2001 census shows that the sex ratio is continuing to drop at an alarming rate across the country through the degree might differ from one state to another. Violence against women in India is increasing at alarming rate and for this a number of causes are responsible. Manifestations of violence include physical aggression such as burns, humidiation, blackmail, sexual abuse rape, control over speech, coercion etc. It is also partly a result of gender relations that assumes men to be superior to women. The book comprehensively deals with diverse nature of violence being meted out to women in India and post traumatic stress disorder.
