Arguing that, from the very first dictionaries written by Christian missionaries to today's Arabism, Islam has been explained through simple parallels to Christianity that radically distort the prophet Muhammad's view of the world, this book follows a rigorous methodology in order to understand Muhammad's Islam. It arrives at the conclusion that the Prophet's Islam was and is, unlike Christianity, a religious tradition without dogma, a morality without sin, a spiritual path without asceticism, and a mysticism without a proposed union with the divine. In short, this book defines Islam as a very different spiritual universe than the religion it is often made out to be.
