Downloading Microsoft eBooks

Downloading Your First eBook

1. Click the “Download Microsoft Reader” button above.
2. Select the correct software version, either for Desktop & Laptop, Tablet PC or PocketPC.
3. Click the “Download” link in the top right hand corner of the page.
4. Click "Save" or "OK" to save the software to disk, then click “Open”.
5. Follow the prompts to install the Reader.
6. Click “Update” and a window will appear, click “Yes”.
7. Follow the “Click Here” link to begin Activation.
8. Sign in using a .NET Passport or follow the link to get one. Click “Continue”.
9. You will receive a message stating “Activation Components have been successfully downloaded to your device and installed”. Close the window.
10. Click the “Download” link next to your purchase on your eBooks.com account. The eBook will download and MS Reader will open.
    Note: Internet Explorer must be used to download in Microsoft Reader format
    

Downloading Subsequent eBooks

1. Click the “Download” link next to your purchase on your eBooks.com account. The eBook will download and MS Reader will open.

Activating MS Reader

You need to activate your copy of MS Reader in order to read secure eBooks. If you did not activate your copy of MS Reader during installation, complete the steps below to activate it now;

1. When you first open Microsoft Reader, you are prompted to activate your device. Click on the Activation link to complete the activation process. You can also choose to activate your device at any time from the Microsoft Reader Activation page at: http://www.microsoft.com/reader/info/activation.aspx
2. If you do not have a Microsoft Passport account, you will need to create one in order to sign in and start the activation process. Click the "Get one" link to create a Passport account, and continue with Reader activation. If you already have a Microsoft Passport account, click "Sign in" to start the Activation process.
3. Enter your Microsoft Passport sign-in name and password.
4. You will be directed to the activation page where you can activate your device. Pocket PC devices must be tethered to activate. Click the "Continue" link to initiate the Activation process. The length of time needed to complete activation will depend on the speed of your internet connection. When complete, you will receive a message stating “Activation Components have been successfully downloaded to your device and installed”.
   Note: If you have a Pocket PC attached to your PC or Tablet PC, the Activation page includes two options - one for Pocket PCs and one for all other devices. Click the "Activate my computer" link (for desktop, laptop, or Tablet PCs), or the "Activate my Pocket PC" link (for a Pocket PC) and then wait a few moments while the activation process is completed.
