Transferring your Microsoft eBook to your Hand Held Device

Please ensure that you have Microsoft Reader 2.1.1 for Desktop and Laptop PC installed on your PC before proceeding.  This is a necessary step, as you will need to download your eBook to your PC before transferring it to your hand held.

1. If you do not already have Microsoft Reader 2.1.1 for Desktop and Laptop PC installed on your PC, you can obtain it from here;

2. You will need to have Microsoft Reader 2.2.2 or 2.2.3 for Pocket PC installed and activated on your hand held device. Many Pocket PCs come with Microsoft Reader Preinstalled although, in some cases, it is an earlier version.

   If you do not have version 2.2.2 or 2.2.3 on your Pocket PC;

   1. Connect the Pocket PC with the desktop PC via ActiveSync.
   2. Open ActiveSync. Click Tools and select Add/Remove Programs.
   3. Choose Microsoft Reader, and then click to remove the earlier version.
   4. Simply restart (not hard reset) the Pocket PC.
   5. Download the latest version of Microsoft Reader for Pocket PC;

   6. Follow the prompts to install the Reader on your hand held, then complete the steps below to activate your Reader.

   If you do have version 2.2.2 or 2.2.3 on your Pocket PC;

   1. Browse to the Passport site: http://www.passport.com/. Please log in first, and then log out again to ensure that you are not signed in.
   2. Visit the activation site: http://das.microsoft.com/activate/default.asp on the desktop PC.
   3. Click "Sign in" to start the Activation process.
   4. Enter your Passport e-mail address and password, then click "Sign in". Note: If you have previously activated another copy of Microsoft Reader, please ensure that you use the same Passport to activate this copy. You will be unable to read your existing eBooks with this Reader if you have used different passports to activate them.
   5. Click "Activate My Pocket PC" and follow the onscreen instructions to reactivate Microsoft Reader on your Pocket PC.
   6. Simply restart (not hard reset) the Pocket PC.
3. Once you have completed these steps, you can transfer the eBook from your PC to your Pocket PC.
   1. With your Pocket PC in its cradle, open the "ActiveSync" software from your Desktop/Laptop computer and click on the "Explore" button within the toolbar.
   2. Double-click on the "My Pocket PC" icon. Open the "My Documents" folder.
   3. On your Desktop/Laptop computer, open your "My Library" folder (this is saved under "My Documents"), position these two windows side-by-side.
   4. Drag-and-drop your eBook from your Desktop's "My Library" window to your Pocket PC's "My Documents" window. ActiveSync will automatically begin copying the eBook to your Pocket PC.
      Note: If you have more than one eBook stored on your Desktop/Laptop, you may need to open the eBook files to determine which file is which.

The eBook has now been added to your Microsoft Reader Library on your Pocket PC. The eBook also remains available to be read on your Desktop/Laptop computer.
