Printing Your eBook

Only Adobe eBooks allow printing although, some may have a security setting that prevents printing all together. You can check this on the Book Details page of each eBook.

Following is an example of the eBook settings;

If printing is set to 'On', you will be shown how many pages you can print and the time period for printing them. These settings are determined by the Publisher and vary from book to book.

If printing is set to 'Off' you will not be able to print the eBook at all.

How do I print my eBook?

To print from Adobe Digital Editions, you will need to set up your printing options. To do this;

1. Go to "File"/"Print Setup"
2. Then, "File"/"Print"
3. Choose a printer from the list provided, then choose one of the following printing options;
   • Print to File - (for Windows) creates a PostScript file to print
   • Current View - prints what you can currently see (including comments)
   • Current Page - prints the page that you can currently see
   • Pages From/To - prints a range of pages
   • Page Scaling - reduces or increases the size of a page when printing

Limitations to Printing

There are some limitations to printing ebooks.

1. Printers
   You cannot print eBook pages on some printers that do not use the PostScript page description language. Printing may appear to succeed, but the pages do not appear in the printer's document queue. In some instances, it is still possible to print by installing a printer driver with the PostScript page description language. The printers affected include;
   • HP LaserJet 3200
   • HP LaserJet 8100N
   • HP 1100
   • HP LaserJet 5SI
   • Epson Stylus 700/800
   • Epson Stylus 440
   • Epson Stylus 630
   • Epson LP 8500C
   • Epson PM 3000C
   • Epson LP 900
   • Brother HL-1240

2. Rotate
   When you click the "Rotate" button and print part of an eBook, you can print only the current page. You will not be able to edit the start and end pages in the Print dialog box.
3. Security Settings
   Adobe Digital Editions can open PDF documents that contain Adobe Acrobat 5.0 (128-bit) security settings. One such setting specifies that only low-resolution printing is permitted for the document. When the Adobe Digital Editions opens a document that contains this setting, it does not allow printing at all.
4. Printing Double-Sided Pages
   Adobe Digital Editions has difficulty printing double-sided pages. If you select this option, only the even pages will print and the odd numbered pages will not print at all. Your license to print the eBook will still be used however, so it is recommended that you do not try to print double-sided pages.
