Intriguing science fiction from Arthur C. Clarke ...
Sir Arthur Charles Clarke, a British science fiction author, inventor, and futurist, was most famous for his novel 2001: A Space Odyssey, written in a collaboration with director Stanley Kubrick.
While Clarke had a few stories published in fanzines, in his early writing years, his first professional sales appeared in Astounding Science Fiction. Along with his writing, Clarke briefly worked as Assistant Editor of Science Abstracts before devoting himself to writing full-time from 1951.
In 1948 he wrote "The Sentinel" for a competition, the story being the basis for A Space Odyssey. It introduced a mystical and cosmic element to Clarke's work. Many of Clarke's later works feature a technologically advanced mankind, confronted by a superior alien intelligence.
His visions of space travel and computing sparked the imagination of readers and scientists alike.
