In some OECD countries governments may top up the financial benefits of this market price support through other means, such as direct budgetary payments, favourable tax treatment, and subsidised credit. This leads to two important outcomes. First, agriculture specific programmes intended to increase the welfare of farmers can become capitalised into asset values.
