Hybrid CMOS Single-Electron-Transistor Device and Circuit Modeling
By: Mahapatra, Santanu
Published by: Artech House Books

CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) is a widely accepted and utilized technology among electrical engineers involved with circuit design. SET (single electron transistor) technology has recently gained significant attention, because it can be combined with CMOSs to improve overall performance of integrated circuits -- reducing power consumption and achieving greater functionality. This cutting-edge resource provides professionals with the conceptual framework and specific strategies for CMSO-SET hybrid circuit design. The book offers a thorough understanding of the pros and cons of digital SETs, and explains how SETs can solve the intrinsic drawbacks of CMOS technology. From the basic physics of single electron transistors and SET modeling, to advanced concepts like CMSO-SET co-integration, the book helps engineers realize significant performance benefits by showing them how to incorporate SET technology into their design projects. more...

An Introduction To Electrospinning And Nanofibers
By: Ramakrishna, Seeram; Fujihara, Kazutoshi; Teo, Wee-Eong; Lim, Teik-Cheng; Ma, Zuwei
Published by: World Scientific

The research and development of nanofibers has gained much prominence in recent years due to the heightened awareness of its potential applications in the medical, engineering and defense fields. Among the most successful methods for producing nanofibers is the electrospinning process. In this timely book, the areas of electrospinning and nanofibers are covered for the first time in a single volume. The book can be broadly divided into two parts: the first comprises descriptions of the electrospinning process and modeling to obtain nanofibers while the second describes the characteristics and applications of nanofibers. The material is aimed at both newcomers and experienced researchers in the area. more...

Low-dimensional Nanoscale Systems On Discrete Spaces
By: Papp, Erhardt; Micu, Codrutza
Published by: World Scientific

The area of low-dimensional quantum systems on discrete spaces is a rapidly growing research field lying at the interface between quantum theoretical developments, like discrete and q-difference equations, and tight binding superlattice models in solid-state physics. Systems on discrete spaces are promising candidates for applications in several areas. Indeed, the dynamic localization of electrons on the 1D lattice under the influence of an external electric field serves to describe time-dependent transport in quantum wires, linear optical absorption spectra, and the generation of higher harmonics. Odd-even parity effects and the flux dependent oscillations of total persistent currents in discretized rings can also be invoked. Technological developments are then provided by conductance calculations characterizing 1D conductors, junctions between rings and leads or rings and dots, and by quantum LC-circuits. Accordingly, the issues presented in this book are important starting points for the design of novel nanodevices. more...
