Nanotechnology
By: Simeonova, P.P. (ed.); Opopol, N. (ed.); Luster, M.I. (ed.)
Published by: Springer
Nanotechnology is one of the fastest growing technological fields of the 21st century. Nanotechnologies will impact numerous industries, including daily consumer products, health care, energy, and transportation. However, the success of the emerging nanotechnology applications will depend on dynamic development of nanomaterial toxicology, risk and exposure assessment. Little is known about the potential adverse health and ecological effects of exposure to engineered nanomaterials, the main components of many nanotechnologies. Concerns are coming from the initial toxicological studies as well as the research and epidemiological reports on ultrafine particle toxicity. This book provides a summary of the state-of-art knowledge on nanomaterials and nanoparticles ??? toxicological issues; risk assessment and control measures; public participation and educational/ethical issues; and lastly, institutional mechanisms and status reports from various countries. This book includes a summary of the most important gaps in knowledge, needs for research, and collaborations in the field of nanotechnology regarding safe application and development.

Nanotechnology and Nano-Interface Controlled Electronic Devices
By: Unknown
Published by: Elsevier Science
The International Workshop on Nanotechnology and NICE Devices (IWNND) was held on March 19 and 20, 2002 at Nagoya Congress Center, Nagoya, Japan. This international workshop was organized as one of the important events of the Nagoya Nanotechnology International Forum 2002 (NNIF2002), from March 18 through 20, 2002. Needless to say, Nano-Technology and Materials, Bio-Technology, Information Technology and others are recognized as the important key technologies in the 21st century, and these techniques are believed to make a significant contribution to our daily and fruitful life. The purpose of the IWNND workshop was to provide opportunities to discuss the present status and trends of Nanotechnology and Organic Electronics. Paying attention to the role of nano-interfaces, the experiments and ideas to create NICE (Nano-Interface Controlled Electronic) devices have been presented by distinguished scientists from overseas and Japan, working in universities, laboratories and companies. All the participants could benefit from the presentations and discussions. This book is a collection of papers based on the invited talks at this workshop. Many organic materials that are interesting in terms of electronics have been synthesized and discovered during the past few decades. One can see one of the most remarkable achievements in the Nobel Prize for Chemistry 2000 awarded to Heeger, MacDiarmid and Shirakawa, for their contribution to the discovery and development of conducting polymers. In the hope of observing novel and useful electrical and optical properties, many investigations have been carried out to build up organic devices. Plastic solar cells, flexible-type field effect transistors (FETs), electroluminescent (EL) devices and so on have been developed, along with the development of new organic materials. Insightful ideas have also been proposed to open-up new methods in electronics. However these are no longer sufficient. One must develop techniques to catch the specif
