Beyond Partial Differential Equations
By: Beyer, Horst Reinhard
Published by: Springer
The present volume is self-contained and introduces to the treatment of linear and nonlinear (quasi-linear) abstract evolution equations by methods from the theory of strongly continuous semigroups. The theoretical part is accessible to graduate students with basic knowledge in functional analysis. Only some examples require more specialized knowledge from the spectral theory of linear, self-adjoint operators in Hilbert spaces. Particular stress is on equations of the hyperbolic type since considerably less often treated in the literature. Also, evolution equations from fundamental physics need to be compatible with the theory of special relativity and therefore are of hyperbolic type. Throughout, detailed applications are given to hyperbolic partial differential equations occurring in problems of current theoretical physics, in particular to Hermitian hyperbolic systems. This volume is thus also of interest to readers from theoretical physics.

Circuit Analysis I
By: Karris, Steven T
Published by: Orchard Publications
This text is an introduction to the basic principles of electrical engineering. It is intended for all engineering majors and presumes knowledge of first year differential and integral calculus and physics. The last two chapters include step-by-step procedures for the solutions of simple differential equations used in the derivation of the natural and forces responses. Appendix A is an introduction to MATLAB, and Appendices B and C provide a thorough review of complex numbers and matrices respectively.

Co-Semigroups and Applications
By: Vrabie, Ioan I.
Published by: JAI Press
The book contains a unitary and systematic presentation of both classical and very recent parts of a fundamental branch of functional analysis: linear semigroup theory with main emphasis on examples and applications. There are several specialized, but quite interesting, topics which didn't find their place into a monograph till now, mainly because they are very new. So, the book, although containing the main parts of the classical theory of C o -semigroups, as the Hille-Yosida theory, includes also several very new results, as for instance those referring to various classes of semigroups such as equicontinuous, compact, differentiable, or analytic, as well as to some nonstandard types of partial differential equations, i.e. elliptic and parabolic systems with dynamic boundary conditions, and linear or semilinear differential equations with distributed (time, spatial) measures. Moreover, some finite-dimensional-like methods for certain semilinear pseudo-parabolic, or hyperbolic equations are also disscussed. Among the most interesting applications covered are not only the standard ones concerning the Laplace equation subject to either Dirichlet, or Neumann boundary conditions, or the Wave, or Klein-Gordon equations, but also those referring to the Maxwell equations, the equations of Linear Thermoelasticity, the equations of Linear Viscoelasticity, to list only a few. Moreover, each chapter contains a set of various problems, all of them completely solved and explained in a special section at the end of the book. The book is primarily addressed to graduate students and researchers in the field, but it would be of interest for both physicists and engineers. It should be emphasised that it is almost self-contained, requiring only a basic course in Functional Analysis and Partial Differential Equations.

Computer Solution of Large Linear Systems Studies in Mathematics and its Applications Volume 28 (SMIA)
By: Unknown
Published by: North Holland
The Symposium was the latest in a long-running and well-respected series in this key area of IFAC's technical interest. Its aim was to address the control aspects of those industrial, economic, social and environmental systems whose characteristics are high dimensionality, non-linearity and uncertainty, associated with a multitude of structural forms, with intense and time critical information exchange and efficient co-ordination. The Symposium covered all major aspects of large scale, complex systems including methodological aspects, technological solutions and practical applications.

Construction of Global Lyapunov Functions Using Radial Basis Functions
By: Giesl, Peter
Published by: Springer
The basin of attraction of an equilibrium of an ordinary differential equation can be determined using a Lyapunov function. A new method to construct such a Lyapunov function using radial basis functions is presented in this volume intended for researchers and advanced students from both dynamical systems and radial basis functions. Besides an introduction to both areas and a detailed description of the method, it contains error estimates and many examples.
