Automorphic Forms And Shimura Varieties Of Pgsp(2)
By: Flicker, Yuval Z
Published by: World Scientific
The area of automorphic representations is a natural continuation of studies in the 19th and 20th centuries on number theory and modular forms. A guiding principle is a reciprocity law relating infinite dimensional automorphic representations with finite dimensional Galois representations. Simple relations on the Galois side reflect deep relations on the automorphic side, called liftings. This in-depth book concentrates on an initial example of the lifting, from a rank 2 symplectic group PGSp(2) to PGL(4), reflecting the natural embedding of Sp(2,?) in SL(4, ?). It develops the technique of comparing twisted and stabilized trace formulae. It gives a detailed classification of the automorphic and admissible representation of the rank two symplectic PGSp(2) by means of a definition of packets and quasi-packets, using character relations and trace formulae identities. It also shows multiplicity one and rigidity theorems for the discrete spectrum. Applications include the study of the decomposition of the cohomology of an associated Shimura variety, thereby linking Galois representations to geometric automorphic representations. To put these results in a general context, the book concludes with a technical introduction to Langlands program in the area of automorphic representations. It includes a proof of known cases of Artins conjecture.

Autonomous Navigation in Dynamic Environments
By: Laugier, Christian (ed.); Chatila, Raja (ed.)
Published by: Springer
The purpose of this book is to address the challenging problem of Autonomous Navigation in Dynamic Environments, and to present new ideas and approaches in this newly emerging technical domain. The book surveys the state-of-the-art, discusses in detail various related challenging technical aspects, and addresses upcoming technologies in this field. The aim of the book is to establish a foundation for a broad class of mobile robot mapping and navigation methodologies for indoor, outdoor, and exploratory missions. Three main topics located on the cutting edge of the state of the art are addressed, from both the theoretical and technological point of views: Dynamic world understanding and modelling for safe navigation, Obstacle avoidance and motion planning in dynamic environments, and Human-robot physical interactions. Several models and approaches are proposed for solving problems such as Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) in dynamic environments, Mobile obstacle detection and tracking, World state estimation and motion prediction, Safe navigation in dynamic environments, Motion planning in dynamic environments, Robust decision making under uncertainty, and Human-Robot physical interactions.

Basic Electronics Math
By: Herrick, Clyde
Published by: Newnes (Elsevier Science & Technology Books)
Most students entering an electronics technician program have an understanding of mathematics. Basic Electronics Math provides is a practical application of these basics to electronic theory and circuits. The first half of Basic Electronics Math provides a refresher of mathematical concepts. These chapters can be taught separately from or in combination with the rest of the book, as needed by the students. The second half of Basic Electronics Math covers applications to electronics.

Beyond Wavelets
By: Welland, Grant
Published by: Academic Press (Elsevier Science & Technology Books)
"Beyond Wavelets" presents state-of-the-art theories, methods, algorithms, and applications of mathematical extensions for classical wavelet analysis. Wavelets, introduced 20 years ago by. Morlet and Grossmann and developed very rapidly during the 1980's and 1990's, has created a common link between computational mathematics and other disciplines of science and engineering. Classical wavelets have provided effective and efficient mathematical tools for time-frequency analysis which enhances and replaces the Fourier approach. However, with the current advances in science and technology, there is an immediate need to extend wavelet mathematical tools as well. "Beyond Wavelets" presents a list of ideas and mathematical. foundations for such extensions, including: continuous and digital ridgelets, brushlets, steerable wavelet packets, contourlets, eno-wavelets, spline-wavelet frames, and quasi-affine wavelets. Wavelet subband algorithms are extended to pyramidal directional and nonuniform filter banks. In addition, this volume includes a. method for tomographic reconstruction using a mechanical image model and a statistical study for independent adaptive signal representation. Investigators already familiar with wavelet methods from areas such as engineering, statistics, and mathematics will benefit by owning this volume.

Breakup of Liquid Sheets and Jets
By: Lin, S. P.
Published by: Cambridge University Press
The theme of this book is an exposition of what we know about the physics underlying the onset of instability in liquid sheets and jets. Wave motion and breakup phenomena subsequent to the onset of instability are also carefully explained. Physical concepts are established through rigorous mathematics, accurate numerical analyses and comparison of theory with experiment.
