Solving ODEs with MATLAB
By: Shampine, L. F.; Gladwell, I.; Thompson, S.
Published by: Cambridge University Press

This concise text for a one-semester course for upper-level undergraduates and beginning graduate students in engineering, science, and mathematics can also serve as a quick reference for professionals. The treatment of each method is brief and technical issues are minimized, but all the issues important in practice and for understanding the code are discussed. more...

Solving Polynomial Equation Systems I
By: Mora, Teo; Rota, G.-C.
Published by: Cambridge University Press

Mora covers the classical theory of finding roots of a univariate polynomial, emphasising computational aspects. He shows that solving a polynomial equation really means finding algorithms that help one manipulate roots rather than simply computing them; to that end he also surveys algorithms for factorizing univariate polynomials. more...

Spectral Methods for Time-Dependent Problems
By: Hesthaven, Jan; Gottlieb, Sigal; Gottlieb, David
Published by: Cambridge University Press

Spectral methods are useful techniques for solving integral and partial differential equations, many of which appear in fluid mechanics and engineering problems. Based on a graduate course, these popular and efficient techniques are presented with both rigorous analysis and extensive coverage of their wide range of applications. more...

Stream Ciphers and Number Theory
By: Cusick, T.W.; Ding, C.; Renvall, A.
Published by: North Holland

This book is almost entirely concerned with stream ciphers, concentrating on a particular mathematical model for such ciphers which are called additive natural stream ciphers . These ciphers use a natural sequence generator to produce a periodic keystream. Full definitions of these concepts are given in Chapter 2. This book focuses on keystream sequences which can be analysed using number theory. It turns out that a great deal of information can be deducted about the cryptographic properties of many classes of sequences by applying the terminology and theorems of number theory. These connections can be explicitly made by describing three kinds of bridges between stream ciphering problems and number theory problems. A detailed summary of these ideas is given in the introductory Chapter 1. Many results in the book are new, and over seventy percent of these results described in this book are based on recent research results. more...

Symplectic Methods for the Symplectic Eigen-problem
By: Fassbender, Heike
Published by: Springer

Symplectic eigenvalue problems are helpful in analyzing a number of different questions that arise in linear control theory for discrete-time systems, and can identify underlying causes of unwanted behaviour. This text describes techniques for solving a range of these particular problems. more...

Riemann Hypothesis
By: Borwein, Peter B.; Choi, S.; Rooney, B.; Weirathmueller, A.
Published by: Springer

This book presents the Riemann Hypothesis, connected problems, and a taste of the body of theory developed towards its solution. It is targeted at the educated non-expert. Almost all the material is accessible to any senior mathematics student, and much is accessible to anyone with some university mathematics. The appendices include a selection of original papers. This collection is not very large and encompasses only the most important milestones in the evolution of theory connected to the Riemann Hypothesis. The appendices also include some authoritative expository papers. These are the "expert witnessesa whose insight into this field is both invaluable and irreplaceable. more...
