British Virgin Islands Alive!
By: Greenberg, H.
Published by: Hunter Publishing
Here is the best guide to these sparsely populated islands. Largely untouched by tourism, they have few high-rise hotels, no time-share condos, no casinos. What they do have is unparalleled beauty, with small picturesque hotels set on beachfronts, in ancient fortresses, in the ruins of sugar mills and on lush mountainsides. On the island of Virgin Gorda, there is Little Dix Bay Resort, built by Laurance Rockefeller; Peter Island Resort occupies another island in its entirety. Among the other islands are Tortola, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke and Beef. The sailing here cannot be beaten and boats gather in the pristine waters year-round. Diving enthusiasts can visit ghost ships, pinnacles and underwater caves.

Cancun, Cozumel & the Riviera Maya Alive
By: Corord, Bruce
Published by: Hunter Publishing
What a joy after reading some of the other guides to Cancun! This book covers almost everything, and is obviously written by someone with an intimate familiarity with the region. It offers helpful hints on each page, rather than just pointing out lists of places to visit (although it does this also). The Mexican to U.S. clothing size conversion chart is particularly helpful. The book dedicates 12 pages to shopping in Cancun, a topic restricted to 3/4 page in the other guidebook I purchased at the same time (and sent back). The coverage of places to stay, places to eat, and what to do is very objective and frank, unlike some of the guides which seem to be produced by the local chamber of commerce. As a lover of travel (and travel guides), I can't say enough about this one ? it's as good a guide to a city as I have read.

Cayman Islands Adventure Guide
By: Permenter, Paris; Bigley, John
Published by: Hunter Publishing
To the outsider, the Cayman Islands ? Cayman Brac, Grand Cayman and Little Cayman ? are almost always equated with watersports and glorious beaches, plus offshore banking opportunities. This is hardly surprising, since the Cayman Islands do offer world-class scuba diving in crystal-clear waters, as well as a tax-free haven. But these three islands have so much more to offer the traveler who?s willing to wander off the traditional tourist paths, walk away from the beachside resorts and explore by themselves. Diverse woodlands and pristine wetlands occupy much of the islands? interiors, rugged hiking trails meander across the peaks and valleys, and mangrove swamps cushion the shoreline, offering a unique breeding ground for many birds and fish. These protected wilderness areas are often left unexplored by lay-in-the-sun-all-day tourists, who miss some of the biggest attractions the islands offer.
