Analects
By: Confucius; Slingerland, Edward
Published by: Hackett Publishing Company, Inc.

This edition goes beyond others that largely leave readers to their own devices in understanding this cryptic work, by providing an entrée into the text that parallels the traditional Chinese way of approaching it: alongside Slingerland's exquisite rendering of the work are his translations of a selection of classic Chinese commentaries that shed light on difficult passages, provide historical and cultural context, and invite the reader to ponder a range of interpretations. more...

Analytical Buddhism
By: Albahari, M.
Published by: Palgrave Macmillan, Ltd.

Does the self - a unified, separate, persisting thinker/owner/agent - exist? Drawing on Western philosophy, neurology and Theravadin Buddhism, this book argues that the self is an illusion created by a tier of non-illusory consciousness and a tier of desire-driven thought and emotion, and that separateness underpins the self's illusory status. more...

Anarchism and Other Essays
By: Goldman, Emma
Published by: The Floating Press

Anarchism & Other Essays is a book by the feminist anarchist Emma Goldman, published in 1911. The contents of Anarchism & Other Essays are:. Anarchism: What It Really Stands For. Minorities Versus Majorities. The Psychology of Political Violence. Prisons: A Social Crime and Failure. Patriotism: A Menace to Liberty. Francisco Ferrer and The Modern School. The Hypocrisy of Puritanism. The Traffic in Women. Woman Suffrage. The Tragedy of Woman's Emancipation. Marriage and Love. The Drama: A Powerful Dissimenator of Radical Though. Anarchism is a political philosophy encompassing theories and attitudes which reject compulsory government (the state) and support its elimination, often due to a wider rejection of involuntary or permanent authority. Anarchism is defined by The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Politics as "the view that society can and should be organized without a coercive state.". There are many types and traditions of anarchism, not all of which are mutually exclusive. Anarchists hold different views as to the economic and legal organisation of society; some favour anarcho-communism, collectivist anarchism, anarcho-syndicalism or participatory economics while others support market systems like mutualism, agorism, or anarcho-capitalism. Others, such as anarchists without adjectives neither advocate nor object to any particular form of organization. According to The Oxford Companion to Philosophy , "there is no single defining position that all anarchists hold, beyond their rejection of compulsory government, and those considered anarchists at best share a certain family resemblance". Anarchist schools of thought differ fundamentally, supporting anything from extreme individualism to complete collectivism. Some anarchists have opposed coercion, while others have supported it, particularly in the form of violent revolution on the path to anarchy or utopia.
