Modern Computational Intelligence Methods for the Interpretation of Medical Images
By: Ogiela, Marek R.; Tadeusiewicz, Ryszard
Published by: Springer
A detailed description of up-to-date methods used for computer processing and interpretation of medical images is given. The scope of the book include images acquisition, storing with compression, processing, analysis, recognition and also its automatic understanding In introduction general overview of the computer vision methods designed for medical images is presented. Next sources of medical images are presented with their general characteristics. Both traditional (like X-ray) and very modern (like PET) sources of medical images are presented. The main emphasis is placed on such properties of medical images given by particular medical imaging methods which are important form the point of view of its computer processing, analysis and recognition. The consecutive parts of the book describe compression and processing methods, including many methods developed by authors especially for medical images. After parts describing analysis and recognition of medical images come most important part, in which the new method of automatic understanding of medical images is given. This new method of image interpretation, described in previous works of the same authors with applications for simple 2D images now is generalized for 3D images and for complex medical images with many objects observed and with complicated relations between these objects.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
By: Brotherston, Naida Edgar
Published by: Haworth Press, The
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Clinical Working Case Definition, Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols presents an important medical milestonea clinical definition (clinical diagnostic criteria) for myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). The clinical case definition was developed by an expert medical consensus panel of treating physicians, teaching faculty and world leaders in the research of ME/CFS. An expert subcommittee of Health Canada established the Terms of Reference for the consensus panel. The definition more adequately reflects the complexity of symptoms of a given patients pathogenesis and should establish ME/CFS as a distinct medical entity and help distinguish it from overlapping medical conditions in the absence of a definitive laboratory test. This special issue of the Journal of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome also includes a discussion of prominent symptoms, clinical practice diagnostic and treatment guidelines based on the best available research evidence, and an overview of available research on ME/CFS.

Each tumour is introduced with a concise definition and discussion of nomenclature, followed by a summary of what is known about its epidemiology, aetiology, clinical features, macroscopic and microscopic appearance, genetic susceptibility, genetic alterations, and prognosis and predictive factors. Distinctive features are further characterized through the inclusion of over 700 colour photographs, numerous magnetic resonance and ultrasound images, charts, and CT scans. The book provides an international standard for oncologists, gastroenterologists, and pathologists and will be an especially useful guide in the design of studies monitoring response to therapy and clinical outcome
