By: Reichert, Dave
Published by: Little, Brown

For eight years, Sheriff David Reichert devoted days and nights to capturing the Green River Killer-the most notorious serial killer in American history. Love and Madness
By: Levy, Martin
Published by: Harper Collins

On a spring evening in 1779, as she emerged from London's Covent Garden Theatre, a beautiful young woman was shot in the head at point-blank range by a man in a black suit. The brutal murder was even more shocking because of the victim's identity -- she was Martha Ray, live-in mistress to the Earl of Sandwich and devotee of the arts. The man accused of her murder was none other than James Hackman, a respected Anglican minister and Ray's former lover. The aftermath of the crime created an uproar in London high society, as aristocrats debated Hackman's motives. Had he intended to commit suicide, as he later claimed, but, in a moment of weakness, turned his gun on Ray instead? This riveting tale of a crime of passion re-creates the slaying and the clergyman's trial, which was the unrivaled media sensation of its time. more...

Aboriginal Suicide is Different
By: Tatz, Colin

It is a portrait of life, and of self-destruction, by young Australian Aboriginal men and women. To comprehend this phenomenon occurring more often outside custody, one has to appreciate Australian Aboriginal history— it contributes more to an understanding of suicide today than to psychological or medical theories. These youth are suffering more from social than from mental disorder. more...

Published by: Plume

Monday, April 16, 2007 started like any other Monday at Virginia Tech, with professors and students preparing for another busy week of classes. However, word quickly circulated of a shooting in the dorms - and the gunman was still loose. The campus went into lockdown, and as the gruesome events unfolded in Norris Hall, a group of journalism students trapped in a nearby building transmitted stories and updates to the student-run website, PlanetBlacksburg.com. Now, these students, together with their journalism instructor and members of the Virginia Tech community, have documented the events of that day. April 16th: Virginia Tech Remembers gives a voice to the students, faculty, and staff who lived through the shooting, and serves as a memorial for the 32 victims. The book also describes the onslaught of media coverage that immediately followed, and reveals the remarkable resilience of the students of Virginia Tech throughout the entire ordeal. more...
