Journey to the Interior of the Earth
By: Verne, Jules; Malleson, Frederick Amadeus (trans.)
Published by: The Floating Press
A Journey to the Center of the Earth , also translated as A Journey to the Interior of the Earth , is a classic 1864 science fiction novel by Jules Verne. The story involves a professor who leads his nephew and hired guide down a volcano in Iceland to the "center of the Earth". They encounter many adventures, including prehistoric animals and natural hazards, eventually coming to the surface again in southern Italy. From a scientific point of view, this story has not aged quite as well as other Verne stories, since most of his ideas about what the interior of the Earth contains have since been proven wrong. However, a redeeming point to the story is Verne's own belief, told within the novel from the viewpoint of a character, that the inside of the Earth does indeed differ from that which the characters encounter. The World Before the Deluge by Louis Figuier was the scientific source for Journey to the Centre of the Earth . [Adapted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_to_the_Center_of_the_Earth]

Tale of Two Cities
By: Dickens, Charles
Published by: The Floating Press
A Tale of Two Cities (1859) is the second historical novel by Charles Dickens. The novel is an atypical one for Dickens: it is shorter and more tightly plotted, and features less humour. Its central themes are a Christianized vision of resurrection, and a terror of the irrational and savage mob. The novel is rarely considered one of Dickens's best, but it is one of his most popular. "Critics complained on publication of [the novel's] lack of humour, but it later achieved wide popularity, partly through successful dramatizations and film adaptations." It is Dickens's most widely-taught novel in American high schools[citation needed]. The novel was published in weekly installments (not monthly installments, as most of Dickens's novels were). The first installment ran in the first issue of Dickens's literary periodical All the Year Round appearing April 30, 1859. The thirty-first and final installment ran on November 26 of that same year. The novel is set in London and Paris during the French Revolution. It tells the story of Sydney Carton, a dissipated English barrister who redeems himself by giving his life to save the French aristocrat Charles Darnay, out of his love for Darnay's wife, Lucie Manette. Voyage in a Balloon
By: Verne, Jules; Wilbur, Anne T. (trans.)
Published by: The Floating Press
This translation of the short story A Voyage in a Balloon first appeared in Sartain's Union Magazine of Literature and Art (Philadelphia, May 1852, Vol X, No. 5, pages 389-395), making it the first of French writer Jules Verne's stories to be published in English. Verne pioneered the science-fiction genre. He is best known for his novels Journey to the Center of the Earth (written in 1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (written in 1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (written in 1873). Verne wrote about space, air, and underwater travel before navigable aircraft and practical submarines were invented, and before any means of space travel had been devised. He is the second most translated author of all time, only behind Agatha Christie. As Verne writes in this story , "May this terrific recital, while it instructs those who read it, not discourage the explorers of the routes of air.".
