The Eye's Aqueous Humor
By: Kleineller, Arnost; Fambrough, Douglas M.; Benos, Dale J.
Published by: Academic Press (Elsevier Science & Technology Books)
The pressure in the eye is a balance between the rate of producing fluid (the aqueous humor) and the rate of its return to the blood. Glaucoma is one of the most common causes of blindness and is usually associated with an elevated eye pressure. This book provides the basis for understanding the normal regulation of formation and outflow of the aqueous humor. It also discusses how these processes are measured clinically and the current research approaches to unsolved questions.

Foundations of Psychodrama
By: Blatner, Adam
Published by: Springer Publishing Company
A companion to his now-classic Acting-In (Springer, 1996), Foundations of Psychodrama presents a framework for integrating psychodrama with other methods of practice. The third edition, developed from a 1985 monograph, had wide appeal to students and practitioners of psychodrama as well as functioning as a fresh stimulus to psychotherapy, education, pastoral counseling, and other helping roles. This fourth edition takes account of the increasing work in the field in the 12 years since the last edition and includes a good deal of new material designed to present a more specific rationale for the use of psychodramatic methods while constructing a more logical sequence of events. Dr. Blatner has made a great book even better. Author's Website

Fractal Analysis of the Binding and Dissociation Kinetics for Different Analytes on Biosensor Surfaces
By: Sadana, Ajit; Sadana, Neeti
Published by: Elsevier Science
Biosensors are finding increasing applications in different areas. Over the last few years the areas where biosensors may be used effectively has increased dramatically. This book like the previous four books on analyte-receptor binding and dissociation kinetics by this author addresses the often neglected area. The kinetics of binding and dissociation in solution to appropriate receptors immobilized on biosensor surfaces occurs under diffusional limitations on structured surfaces. The receptors immobilized on the biosensor surface contribute to the degree of heterogeneity on the sensor chip surface. The fractal analysis examples presented throughout the book provide a convenient means to make quantitative the degree of heterogeneity present on the sensor surface, and relates it to the binding and dissociation rate coefficients. The fractal dimension is a quantitative measure of the degree of heterogeneity present on the biosensor surface. The book emphasizes medially-oriented examples. The detection of disease-related analytes is also emphasized. The intent being that if intractable and insidious diseases are detected earlier, they will be controlled better, eventually leading to a better prognosis. Chapter 3 is a new chapter that emphasizes enhancing the relevant biosensor performance parameters such as sensitivity, stability, selectivity, response time, etc. As usual, as done in previous books by this author, the last chapter provides an update of the economics involved in biosensors, and the difficulties encounters in starting-up a biosensor company.

G Protein-Coupled Receptors in Health and Disease, Part A
By: Tao, Ya-Xiong
Published by: Academic Press (Elsevier Science & Technology Books)
G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) transduce signals from a diverse array of endogenous ligands, including ions, amino acids, nucleotides, lipids, peptides, and large glycoprotein hormones. They are also responsible for our sensing of exogenous stimuli including photons and odorants. This volume reviews the developments in this field.

Gap Junctions
By: Kleinzeller, A.; Douglas, Fambrough M.; Benos, Dale J.
Published by: Academic Press (Elsevier Science & Technology Books)
In both vertebrates and invertebrates, cell coupling is mediated by channels clustered at cell-to-cell contact domains known as gap junctions. This text focuses on the molecular basis of channel function in health and disease. Twenty-eight contributions from Peracchia (pharmacology and physiology,
