Chemistry of the Natural Atmosphere
By: Warneck, Peter
Published by: Academic Press (Elsevier Science & Technology Books)
Knowledge of thc chemical behavior of trace compounds in the atmosphere has grown steadily, and sometimes even spectacularly, in recent decades. These developments have led to the emergence of atmospheric chemistry as a new branch of science. This book covers all aspects of atmospheric chemistry on a global scale, integrating information from chemistry and geochemistry, physics, and biology to provide a unified account. For each atmospheric constituent of interest, the text summarizes the principal observations on global distribution, chemical reactions, natural and anthropogenic sources, and physical removal processes. Coverage includes processes in the gas phase, in aerosols and c1ouds, and in precipitation, as well as biogeochemical cycles and the evolution of the atmosphere. Chemistry of the Natural Atmosphere, Second Edition, will serve as a textbook for senior undergraduate and graduate courses, and as an essential reference for atmospheric chemists, meteorologists, and anyone studying the biogeochemical cycles of trace gases.

Chemistry of the Upper and Lower Atmosphere
By: Finlayson-Pitts, Barbara J.; Pitts, James N.
Published by: Academic Press (Elsevier Science & Technology Books)
Here is the most comprehensive and up-to-date treatment of one of the hottest areas of chemical research. The treatment of fundamental kinetics and photochemistry will be highly useful to chemistry students and their instructors at the graduate level, as well as postdoctoral fellows entering this new, exciting, and well-funded field with a Ph.D. in a related discipline (e.g., analytical, organic, or physical chemistry, chemical physics, etc.). Chemistry of the Upper and Lower Atmosphere provides postgraduate researchers and teachers with a uniquely detailed, comprehensive, and authoritative resource. The text bridges the "gap" between the fundamental chemistry of the earth's atmosphere and "real world" examples of its application to the development of sound scientific risk assessments and associated risk management control strategies for both tropospheric and stratospheric pollutants.

CO2 Emissions from Fuel Combustion : 1971 / 2004
By: OECD Publishing
Published by: Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
In recognition of fundamental changes in the way governments approach energy-related environmental issues, the IEA has prepared this publication on CO 2 emissions from fuel combustion. This annual publication was first published in 1997 and has become an essential tool for analysts and policy makers in many international fora such as the Conference of the Parties. . The twelfth session of the Conference of the Parties to the Climate Change Convention (COP 12), in conjunction with the second meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 2), will be meeting in Nairobi from 6 to 17 November 2006. . The data in this book are designed to assist in understanding the evolution of the emissions of CO 2 from 1971 to 2004 for more than 140 countries and regions by sector and by fuel. Emissions were calculated using IEA energy databases and the default methods and emission factors from the Revised 1996 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories . . . . .

How to Live a Low-Carbon Life
By: Goodall, Chris
Published by: Earthscan
Climate change isnt someone elses problem we all have to play our part. Its time for us all to go on a carbon diet and this book shows you how. Charles Dunstone (CEO of Carphone Warehouse and a founding partner in The Climate Groups partnership to promote climate change solutions) As this admirable guide demonstrates so clearly a low-carbon lifestyle can be elegant fun rewarding and save us all a lot of money - as well as the planet! Jonathon Porritt CBE (Founder Director of Forum for the Future and author of Capitalism as if the World Matters) Climate change is the greatest challenge facing humanity: drastic reduction of carbon emissions is vital if we are to avoid a catastrophe that devastates large parts of the world. Governments and businesses have been slow to act and individuals now need to take the lead. The Earth can absorb no more than 3 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year for every person on the planet if we are to keep temperature and rainfall change within tolerable limits. Yet from cars and holiday flights to household appliances and the food on our plates Western consumer lifestyles leave each of us responsible for over 12 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year - four times what the Earth can handle. Individual action is essential if we want to avoid climate chaos. How to Live a Low-Carbon Life shows how easy it is to take responsibility providing the first comprehensive one-stop reference guide to calculating your CO2 emissions and reducing them to a sustainable 3 tonnes a year. 'Goodall's well-rounded view of the green world also encompasses the bigger-picture issues that governments and societies face. So if you're fed up with reading about all the little things you can do for the planet and fancy getting stuck into some proper green living this is the book for you.' Mechanisms of Atmospheric Oxidation of the Alkanes
By: Calvert, Jack G; Derwent, Richard G; Orlando, John J; Tyndall, Geoffrey S; Wallington, Timothy J
Published by: Oxford University Press, USA
An international team of eminent atmospheric scientists have prepared Mechanisms of Atmospheric Oxidation of the Alkanes as an authoritative source of information on the role of alkanes in the chemistry of the atmosphere. The book includes the properties of the alkanes and haloalkanes, as well as a comprehensive review and evaluation of the existing literature on the atmospheric chemistry of the alkanes and their major atmospheric oxidation products, and the various approaches now used to model the alkane atmospheric chemistry. Comprehensive coverage is given of both the unsubstituted alkanes and the many haloalkanes. All the existing quality measurements of the rate coefficients for the reactions of OH, Cl, O(3P), NO3, and O3 with the alkanes, the haloalkanes, and their major oxidation products have been reviewed and evaluated. The expert authors then give recommendations of the most reliable kinetic data. They also review the extensive literature on the mechanisms and rates and modes of photodecomposition of the haloalkanes and the products of atmospheric oxidation of the alkanes and the haloalkanes, and make recommendations for future use by atmospheric scientists. The evaluations presented allow an extrapolation of the existing kinetic and photochemical data to those alkanes and haloalkanes that are as yet unstudied. The current book should be of special interest and value to the modelers of atmospheric chemistry as a useful input for development of realistic modules designed to simulate the atmospheric chemistry of the alkanes, their major oxidation products, and their influence on ozone and other trace gases within the troposphere.
