Elliptic Curves
By: Husemöller, Dale
Published by: Springer
This work is an introduction to the theory of elliptic curves, ranging from its most elementary aspects to current research. This manuscript grew out of Tate's Haverford Lectures. For the second edition, the author has written three new chapters and there are also two new appendices which were written by S. Theisen and O. Forster.

Elliptic Curves
By: Schmitt, Susanne; Zimmer, Horst G.
Published by: Walter de Gruyter
The purpose of this textbook is to give an elementary introduction to elliptic curves. Due to the accessibility of computer-assisted calculations, the authors approach the theory from a computational view point. However, the book can also be read by those not interested in any computations.

Embedding Problems in Symplectic Geometry
By: Schlenk, Felix
Published by: Walter de Gruyter
Symplectic geometry serves Hamiltonian dynamics and symplectic mappings occur as time-1-maps of Hamiltonian flows. Studies in the last few years have been done to show that certain things cannot be done by a symplectic mapping, such as mapping a ball into a thinner cylinder. Schlenk shows that certain other things can be done, through elementary an

Exotic Smoothness And Physics
By: Asselmeyer-Maluga, Torsten; Brans, Carl H
Published by: World Scientific
The recent revolution in differential topology related to the discovery of non-standard (exotic) smoothness structures on topologically trivial manifolds such as R4 suggests many exciting opportunities for applications of potentially deep importance for the spacetime models of theoretical physics, especially general relativity. This rich panoply of new differentiable structures lies in the previously unexplored region between topology and geometry. Just as physical geometry was thought to be trivial before Einstein, physicists have continued to work under the tacit but now shown to be incorrect assumption that differentiability is uniquely determined by topology for simple four-manifolds. Since diffeomorphisms are the mathematical models for physical coordinate transformations, Einsteins relativity principle requires that these models be physically inequivalent. This book provides an introductory survey of some of the relevant mathematics and presents preliminary results and suggestions for further applications to spacetime models.

Fibonacci's De Practica Geometrie
By: Hughes, Barnabas B.
Published by: Springer
Leonardo da Pisa, perhaps better known as Fibonacci (ca 1170-ca 1240), selected the useful parts of Greco-Arabic geometry for the book known as "De Practica Geometrie". This translation offers a reconstruction of "De Practica Geometrie" as the author judges Fibonacci wrote it, thereby correcting inaccuracies found in numerous modern histories.

Finite Packing and Covering
By: Böröczky, Jr, Károly; Bollobas, B.; Fulton, W.; Katok, A.; Kirwan, F.; Sarnak, P.; Simon, B.
Published by: Cambridge University Press
This book provides an in-depth discussion of the theory of finite packings and coverings by convex bodies. It contains various new results and arguments and provides a comprehensive treatment of problems whose interplay was not clearly understood before. Two-dimensional and higher-dimensional arrangements are discussed separately, arrangements of congruent convex bodies in Euclidean space are discussed, and the density of finite packing and covering by balls in Euclidean, spherical and hyperbolic spaces is considered.

Flexagons Inside Out
By: Pook, Les
Published by: Cambridge University Press
Flexagons are paper models that can be flexed in different ways to change their shape. They are easy to make, and work in surprising ways. This book explains the maths behind flexagons and includes instructions to make them. Flexagons will appeal to anyone interested in puzzles or recreational maths.

Floer Homology Groups in Yang-Mills Theory
By: Donaldson, S. K.; Furuta, M.; Kotschick, D.; Bollobas, B.; Fulton, W.; Katok, A.; Kirwan, F.; Sarnak, P.
Published by: Cambridge University Press
The seminal work of Floer has now been placed in a contemporary setting. The author of this monograph writes with the big picture constantly in mind, reviewing current knowledge and predicting future directions. This forms part of the work for which Simon Donaldson was awarded the prestigious Fields Medal.
