Advances in Porous Media
By: Corapcioglu, M.Y.
Published by: Elsevier Science
Advances in Porous Media, Volume 3 presents in-depth review papers that give a comprehensive coverage of the field of transport in porous media. This is the third volume in the series which treats transport phenomena in porous media as an interdisciplinary topic. The objective of each chapter is to review the work done on a specific topic including theoretical, numerical as well as experimental studies. All contributors are from a variety of backgrounds, such as civil and environmental engineering, earth and environmental sciences. The articles are aimed at scientists and engineers from various fields who are concerned with the fundamentals and applications of processes in porous media. Aeolian Sediments
By: Pye, Kenneth (ed.); Lancaster, N. (ed.)
Published by: Wiley-Blackwell
Studies of aeolian sediments, both ancient and modern, have exhibited a number of important conceptual advances in recent years. In particular, there has been a move away from descriptions of sediments, bedforms and sedimentary environments toward a new emphasis on the dynamics of aeolian depositional systems at different temporal and spatial scales, and their response to external changes in sea levels, regional and global climates and tectonics. This Special Publication contains a selection of papers that were presented at the Symposium "Aeolian Sediments: Ancient and Modern" held in 1990. It also includes a number of contributions from authors who were not able to attend the meeting, but whose work reflects important aspects of contemporary research in aeolian sedimentology.:.; State-of-the-art research papers in aeolian sedimentology.; International, expert authorship.; Of relevance to modern concerns about global climate change. Aerosol-Cloud-Climate Interactions
By: Hobbs, Peter
Published by: Academic Press (Elsevier Science & Technology Books)
Aerosol and clouds play important roles in determining the earth's climate, in ways that we are only beginning to comprehend. In conjunction with molecular scattering from gases, aerosol and clouds determine in part what fraction of solar radiation reaches the earth's surface, and what fraction of the longwave radiation from the earth escapes to space. This book provides an overview of the latest research on atmospheric aerosol and clouds and their effects on global climate. Subjects reviewed include the direct and indirect effects of aerosol on climate, the radiative properties of clouds and their effects on the Earth's radiation balance, the incorporation of cloud effects in numerical weather prediction models, and stratospheric aerosol and clouds.

Agent-Based Models of Energy Investment Decisions
By: Wittmann, Tobias
Published by: Physica-Verlag GmbH & Co
As societies face the challenge of securing an efficient and environmentally sound energy supply, researchers have strived to determine the future development of energy consumption, infrastructure and technology endowment. This book proposes a new agent-based approach to studying the development of urban energy systems. Decisions of private and commercial investors and operators are modeled using a bounded rational decision model which are parameterized by socio-economic data. The study goes on to analyze the impact of firms??? competition on technology diffusion and calculate diffusion curves for energy technologies such as solar collectors, boilers and efficiency upgrades for buildings. While making an important methodological contribution to the field of energy modelling, the author also presents practical results which will help urban planners and policy makers take more accurate decisions.
