About The Author

William Tucker is a veteran journalist who has written for a broad range of subjects for a variety of national magazines. His work has appeared in Harper’s, The Atlantic Monthly, The American Spectator, National Review, The Weekly Standard, The New Republic, Reader’s Digest, Commentary, Life, Reason, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and other publications. His subjects have included energy, environmentalism, housing, crime, healthcare, welfare reform, entrepreneurship, the economy, and family issues. His 1992 National Review article Monogamy and Its Discontents” was anthologized. He has been a regular columnist for the New York Post, the New York Press and the New York Sun. His books include Progress and Privilege: America in the Age of Environmentalism, Vigilante: The Backlash Against Crime in America, The Excluded Americans: Housing and Homelessness (winner of the 1991 Mencken Award), and Terrestrial Energy: How Nuclear Power Will Lead the Green Revolution and End America’s Energy Odyssey. His plays Founding Fathers,” about the writing of the Constitution, and Freedom Summer,” about Mississippi in the Summer of 1964, have been produced Off-Broadway. He has three grown children and lives in Stony Point, New York with his wife, Stephanie Gutmann, also a writer.
