When Liam's sister Cassie dies, his world turns grey, and he can find no sign of her during the daytime. But at night while Liam dreams Cassie comes to him upon the magical boat calld Sky Dreamer. When Liam's sister dies, his world turns grey. He spends hours watching clouds crossing the wintry skies, hoping that Cassie is out there somewhere. On the night before Liam's birthday, Cassie sails the Sky Dreamer to their home and drops anchor in a ghost gum tree. She invites Liam to climb aboard, and together the children go sailing through the Milky Way. But there are lessons Liam must learn before the Sky Dreamer returns home. The Sky Dreamer is an achingly beautiful and ultimately comforting picture book about a young child learning to take control of his life after the death of a loved one. This title was supported by the Australia Council in its 2010 Grants round. Dr Anne Morgan is a Tasmanian poet and writer of children's books. She wrote The Sky Dreamer while experiencing her own journey through grief, following the tragic early death of her daughter, Miranda.

When Liam’s sister died his world turned grey. He sat for hours, watching clouds crossing the wintry sky, wondering if Cassie was out there, somewhere. ‘It’s your birthday tomorrow,’ said his mother. ‘What would you like for a present?’ ‘I don’t care,’ he said. That night in bed, Liam shut his eyes and tried to remember playing with Cassie. He heard grating sounds and ran to the window. A sailing boat was floating in the air above a ghost gum tree. Cassie was on board, waving and calling, ‘Climb aboard the Sky Dreamer!’ And she was warm and happy, like the Sky Dreamer. Cassie helped Liam climb on board then she sat on a deckchair, picked up a needle and cotton, and began to sew.
