She doesn't believe in monsters! But when Lyli sets out on her expedition, she finds a lot more than she bargained for. Were the legends true all along? And what's really over the mountains? A lively story of friendship, adventure and extending your horizons. Céline Eimann is a Swiss-born artist who, after almost five years based in Australia, recently made the move back to the chocolate country. Title: Lyli Meets the Stone-muncher
Author: Celine Eimann; Anna Bartlett
In a distant corner of the universe sat a small, crowded planet called Motika. At the top of the planet the people had built a bustling city, which grew and grew and grew until it reached the edges of a towering crystal mountain range. Many times explorers tried to reach the other side, but the mountains were too high and steep for anyone to climb. Deep in the crowded city lived Lyli and her pet cat, Tyki. At night Lyli liked to gaze at the mountains and imagine what was hidden on the other side. Sometimes she imagined caves full of shimmering streams and flashing fireflies, and other times she imagined giant fern forests. Lyli’s mother had once told her an old, old legend of a tunnel that stretched through the centre of Motika and out to the other side. According to the story, the tunnel had been built by a monster called the Green Stone-Muncher. The Stone-Muncher had such a massive appetite it would gobble up anything – even rocks! One night as Lyli looked out over the bursting, teeming city, she decided she would search for the secret tunnel. ‘What about the monster?’ Tyki asked. ‘Aren’t you frightened?’
