Releasing several books each year, Nora Roberts has been described by The New Yorker as “America’s favourite novelist.” With over 230 novels published and more than 500 million copies of her books in print, it’s easy to see why.
Beginning her career as a legal secretary, Roberts, who could type fast but not spell very well, began tinkering with creative writing when she was snowed in during a blizzard at home with her small children.
Her first book, Irish Thoroughbred, was published by Silhouette in 1981. These days, she’s a writer of classic contemporary romance and family sagas, often writing in trilogies, so that she can remain with the same characters, three books in a row.
Roberts also writes suspense romance under the pen mane J. D. Robb. The futuristic "In Death" series is set in mid-21st century New York, featuring her popular heroine, Lieutenant Eve Dallas.
Nora Roberts has been inducted into the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame with numerous other awards for her Romance writing. She lives in Boonsboro, Maryland with her husband, photographer Bruce Wilder, where they own and operate two restaurants and a bookstore.
