Kingsbridge Series

by Ken Follett

Cover detail from the Penguin edition of A Column of Fire

The fictional city of Kingsbridge is the setting for the three historical novels in the bestselling series by Ken Follett.

“The Pillars of the Earth” begins in the 12th century, based on the people who sponsored and built the majestic Gothic cathedrals in Medieval England. Its sequel, “World Without End” occurs 157 years later at the start of the Hundred Years' War and the Black Death.  “A Column of Fire”, is set in 1558 during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, amid deep tensions between Catholics and Protestants.

Each of these epic sagas, beloved worldwide, weaves a story of ambition, betrayal, revenge, and love.  “The Pillars of the Earth” and “World Without End” have both been adapted for television mini-series.
