Originally a criminal defense and personal injury litigation lawyer, John Grisham was inspired by his work to write legal thrillers. He has written one novel per year since his first book, A Time to Kill, was published in 1988. While originally garnering little attention, this novel was later re-published and became a bestseller. "It joined his other work including The Pelican Brief, The Runaway Jury, and The Firm, which was on The New York Times bestseller list for 47 weeks and became the bestselling novel of that year. Nine of his books have been adapted into movies.
Along with novels, Grisham has also written an anthology of short stories, non-fiction and children’s books. He now lives in Virginia, and in his spare time works with charitable causes and engages with his lifelong love of baseball.
