This series of high fantasy novels by Robert Jordan has received extensive praise for its elaborately constructed world and lore, and is often favorably compared to epic tales such as The Lord of the Rings. Jordan plays with time by setting his stories in both past and present versions of Earth’s history, and combines recognizable markers of historical periods such as the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution, with magical elements that draw inspiration from the myths and legends contained within Eastern and Western belief systems alike.
Jordan passed away while writing the twelfth and final installment in the series, but his ample notes were used by fan and author Brandon Sanderson to complete the tale in three volumes. Hugely popular among fantasy lovers, this series has spawned comic book, music and video game adaptations, and a television version created by Sony and Amazon was greenlit for production in 2018.
